Background: In New York State, gonococcal (GC) and chlamydia (CT) associated
pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is under-reported because diagnosis is not
lab-based and report forms do not capture PID diagnoses. We piloted a
surveillance tool to capture GC and CT associated PID cases that were not
reported to the health department (HD) among females testing GC and/or CT
positive in high volume emergency departments (EDs). (Source: Journal of
