Chlamydia trachomatis infection is the most common sexually transmitted
bacterial infection with an estimated incidence of 50 million cases in the
world.1 The infection may remain asymptomatic or, if not treated, can lead to
severe clinical manifestations including acute urethral syndrome, urethritis,
bartholinitis, cervicitis, upper genital tract infections and perihepatitis.2
